My Daughter’s Trolls 4th Birthday Party + Free Cricut Design Space File for Shirts

Hello!

My daughter’s Trolls party was a few weeks ago and I made most everything, so I thought I would share with you in case any of you are planning a Trolls party – it seems to be a popular theme!

This was so much fun to plan and decorate – there’s so much you can do with rainbows without spending a lot of money. I found a lot of inspiration on Pinterest and put my own spin on it. Here’s my Trolls Party Ideas Pinterest Board if you’d like to take a look.

My daughter’s Rainbow Tutu was only $10 on Amazon, and I found the t-shirt at Target. One thing to note about the tutu is that each color of fabric is a separate piece, it’s not a solid skirt. Plus it’s see-thru. So my daughter had to wear another tutu under this (or your child could wear shorts, but my DD refuses to wear anything but skirts and dresses!). But she loved it! She wore this exact outfit, troll hair and all, to Costco the other day. She got quite a bit of attention.

Trolls Hair Headbands

I made her Princess Poppy headband as well as a headband for every child. The kids LOVED them. I made a plain black one (Branch) for the only boy (besides my tike) and he was just tickled to have a boy one.

Troll Hair Headband Tips

  • I watched a few tutorials on YouTube but found that if I tied 2 pieces of tulle per knot onto the headband, alternated with 1 piece of tulle, it was nice and full. (Tying 2 strands across the whole thing was too full and tying just one strand per knot was not full enough.)
  • I tied 9-10 knots per headband. Each strand was 20″.
  • I cut the flowers from felt with a Sizzix die I already had (similar to this), hot glued them together and added a flower or rhinestone in the middle, then hot glued them onto the tulle.
  • I found the colorful fabric-covered headbands at Dollar Tree, 6 for $1.

Trolls Rainbow Backdrop

The rainbow backdrop was made with $1 plastic tablecloths from Walmart. Dollar Tree also had some tablecloths but I didn’t like the color selection – and Walmart was the same price.

I hung white balloons at the top as clouds. I used push pins to hold everything up – I bunched up the tablecloths and held them up with 3 push pins each. This was so easy and I feel it was the most impactful decor. It looked nice behind the snack table and also made a great photo backdrop.

Trolls Hugtime Banner

I used my Cricut Explore to make the “HUGTIME” banner; the Bubblegum font was free on Dafont.com. I cut out letters using my Cricut die-cut machine, each in a different color, and glued them to ribbon.

The cardstock I used was from Close to my Heart – Raspberry, Lemon, Willow, and Pacifica. I really like how CTMH cardstock cuts on the Cricut – like butter!

Trolls Hug Timers

With the felt that I already had out for the Troll Hair headbands, I also made Hug Timers for each child. These were easy and a huge hit for all ages – even my little dude pictured above. He loved having a bracelet like the big kids 🙂 I used the same felt flowers and hot glued them onto a strip of felt and added a Velcro closure.

Trolls Rainbow Cupcakes

For the cupcakes, I found some inspiration options on Pinterest and my daughter chose this one. My mom made them and they were fairly easy. They were topped with light blue frosting, white frosting, and Airheads Extreme rainbow (found at Walmart or available on Amazon).

Trolls Cupcake Tips

My mom noted that it was troublesome to keep the rainbow licorice arched…the frosting was pretty runny and it kept sliding flat. So either make sure you have a frosting that has some stability, or you may need to cut the rainbows shorter than you think, as we did. But they still looked adorable!

His & Hers Trolls Shirts

Last but not least, I made shirts for my hubby and me. If you haven’t seen Trolls, you may not get my shirt, but having seen the movie more than I’d like to admit, I thought it was hilarious and my daughter thought it was funny.

I used my Cricut to cut iron-on vinyl (HTV) onto inexpensive shirts I got at Walmart. The Cyan and Gold Glitter HTV are Cricut brand Iron-On, the pink holographic is Siser Easyweed. I *think* THIS is the same one on Amazon.

Party Activities

Most importantly, my daughter and her friends had a BLAST!! (So did the adults, especially my hubby!) Since it was hot out, we had lots of water activities: slip-n-slide that went into a kiddie poolsquirt guns, a Little Tikes slide that went into the kiddie pool (my kids LOVE this slide and use it with the pool all summer long). It was so much fun and all of the bright decor made it that much happier. I know it made for one excited little 4-year-old. 🙂

Please leave a comment to let me know what you think and let me know if you have any questions!

I also made her a Trolls birthday card. You can see that post and process video HERE.
