Hello!
Last week I mentioned that I was making something special with my Cricut for my hubby’s St. Patrick’s Day birthday. I am excited to share this with you–it’s the most complicated I’ve ever gotten with the Cricut!
My friend Stephanie told me about some beer stein shapes at SVGcuts.com. I cannot believe I had never checked out this website!!! There is some super cool stuff and all the files are ready to import and are pretty straightforward, even though they look complicated. There are videos on how to put all the projects together which were really helpful.
This 3D beer stein is part of a whole St. Paddy’s “Feeling Lucky” SVG Kit for only $6.99! I got it when it was the free gift with a $9.98 purchase–score! (Darn, I had to buy more SVGs to get it free!) 😉 You get A LOT for your money!
This would also make a great Father’s day gift or non-St. Paddy’s Day birthday gift…just change the colors and the embellishment on the front of the stein.
I’m usually a 1- or 2-layer Cricut kind of gal. But this was actually easier to make than I expected with the Explore! I left out a few parts to simplify it and it still looks good. My only complaint is that the score lines did not translate into Design Space. I don’t know if I did something wrong or if it’s the software/file. This was the first time I’ve worked with an SVG file and not a Cricut cartridge cut. But it turned out okay! The hardest part is deciding which paper to use, but I love how you can change the colors of the layers in Design Space to see how certain colors will look together.
Here’s the card I made for him, his favorite type of beer is IPA. This is also a file from SVGcuts.com from the Father’s Day Mega Pack SVG kit. It’s shown as a tiny mug on a gift tag–so I designed it in Cricut Design Space to be bigger and turned it into a card by duplicating each layer and welding it so it’s attached and can fold.
It folds on the handle. But it’s kind of floppy so if I make another I’ll have it fold on the “glass” part and have the handle as just one layer on the opposite side. Live and learn! But he didn’t care, he thought it was cool! He thought both paper gifts (and the real craft beers I gave him) were super cool!
